Famous Bipolar People Contest Raises Awareness, Encourages Research

Famous bipolar people include some of the world's foremost musicians, actors, writers, composers and scientists. A new contest launched on YouTube uses the current interest in bipolar celebrities to raise awareness about bipolar disorder.

The Famous Bipolar People Contest encourages research and reflection. According to contest organizers from bipolar-lives, "A monetary prize is offered to give YouTube viewers an incentive to do more than just passively consume celebrity gossip and images of famous people with bipolar disorder."

The video has been released on YouTube and is available here.

According to producer Sarah Freeman, "Bipolar disorder is in the news constantly right now. This has done a lot of good in terms of raising awareness and shattering some of the myths about bipolar. However, unfortunately some of the coverage is still uninformed or unbalanced in its negativity. The celebrity angle gets a lot of attention, but so much valuable information about how successful people have triumphed over bipolar never makes it into the popular media. We hope the images in the video will provide a balance of light and dark and, and spark viewer curiosity about why the famous bipolar people represented experienced such a different range of outcomes."

The contest, which is free to enter, offers a prize of a $50 gift credit card.

Entrants must do three things: correctly name the twelve faces that appear in the video, name the famous bipolar composer whose music plays in the video, and write a haiku about bipolar disorder.

The winner will be selected on merit and chance plays no part.

The $50 gift credit card prize is generously provided by contest sponsor credit-cards-comparisons, a leading Internet provider of consumer information about credit cards and personal finance.
